  • Artist Contest: Vanishing Waves Poster

    :: March 11, 2013

    Are you an artist? Eager to show off your skills in a creative way? Always wanted to make a cool custom poster for a film? Now is your chance!

    The Patio Theater is having a custom poster contest for the upcoming European Science Fiction film VANISHING WAVES, which swept the Fantastic Fest 2012 awards, winning: Best Picture, Best Director (Kristina Buozyte), Best Screenplay (Bruno Samper, Kristina Buozyte) and Best Actress (Jurga Jutaite).

    How will I know what to create if I've never seen the movie?

    Well the next best thing is to watch the trailer, which should give you a whole plethora of interesting ideas to work with.

    Click here to watch the trailer. (NSFW)

    Here is the plot synopsis:  Lukas (Marius Jampolskis) is assisting a scientific research team by functioning as a patient in a series of heavily monitored (and medicated) sensory deprivation experiments wherein he is attempting to make some form of contact with the subject, Aurora (Jurga Jutaite), a young woman who has been locked in a comatose state for some time. Doctors initially hope for just a vague reaffirmation of consciousness, but the experiment takes an unexpected twist when Lukas and Aurora actually develop a strong psychic link in their mutually altered forms of consciousness…and their link quickly evolves into a romantic, sexually charged relationship. As Lukas hides this data from his researchers, he and Aurora meet secretly and passionately in a series of surreal dreamscapes created by their collective minds, but their union is tragically doomed to collapse around them. Exploring the tantalizing possibilities of forming a true, all-encompassing bond with one’s lover, Vanishing Waves is hypnotic, erotic, wholly engrossing, and wildly thought-provoking cinema that transcends any perceived limitations of the science fiction genre, becoming one of the year’s most provocative films in the process.”

    What do I win if I'm chosen?

    Besides being immortalized with your art being hung, used to promote and distributed (if you like)? You get that along with four movie passes for any future show at the Patio Theater!

    What's the deadline?

    The deadline in which the art piece needs to be submitted is March 25th. We will then review all the pieces and pick the best one! Please submit your piece to thepatiotheater@gmail.com with the title "Vanishing Waves Poster Contest". Make sure the file is either JPEG or PDF.

    Good luck!

  • The Cost of History: A Look at the Patio Theater

    :: January 29, 2013

    This hypothetical TV program explores America's treasured but derelict buildings, and offers creative solutions for restoring the buildings all the while exposing whether the historic building is worth the effort. Mixing heartfelt history with hard economics this voyeur's journey could end with loss, uncertainty or salvation. Written/produced/directed by Grace McPhillips. Editing by Elizabeth Theiss & Grace McPhillips. Graphics by Protokulture, music by Corbett Lunsford.

    How much does it cost to keep open an historical theater? What can be done to keep it open and what are the alternatives other than abandonement in the future? Check out this great video on the cost of history.

  • Our Digital Projector Is In!

    :: November 17, 2012

    It's officially here. The digital age has reached the historic Patio Theater, and we are proud to present every new movie in the new digital format. This wouldn't have been possible without the support of our loyal fans who really helped us raise our necessary goal of $50,000 through our Kickstarter campaign that we had over the summer. Through everyones generous pledges, the Patio Theater will be able to remain open to the public, and continue to show many new Hollywood films throughout the years.

    This new injection of life will also let the theater be host to a variety of other special events as well. More special screenings of beloved films from the 60s, 70s and 80s, the ability to host film festivals, private and public screenings of independent films, and much more. We are thrilled to know the potential that this digital projection system will give us, and we hope many of you will take advantage and come to see many of these events in the near future.

    Our first screening of a new film will be on November 23rd, 2012. So keep your eye out for what movie we will be playing. Also we will be showing most of our December Christmas movies in digital as well, so bring your family and friends and enjoy great films, in superb quality, on the big screen in your local neighborhood movie theater.

  • Welcome to our new website!

    :: October 12, 2012

    Our new website features many new aspects that make visiting our website much more fun and easy. The main page is the bread and butter of the whole site, giving you all the information that you need in a quick rundown. We feature a NOW PLAYING box that easily displays what movie we are currently playing, along with the times, a short synopsis, a link to the trailer of the film and the ability for your to share it with your friends on Facebook and Twitter.

    Below you will find three boxes that show the three most up and coming events planned at the Patio Theater. We give you a quick and easy way to check out exactly what's coming up, and if you ever want to learn more about that particular event, click on the box and it will redirect you to our events page. Our events page lists in order our upcoming events and summarizes what exactly that event will entail. It is a great way to look ahead into the future and plan accordingly!

    To the right of the NOW PLAYING box you will see a blog preview of the three most recent blog posts. What can you expect to see from the blog section of the site? More information on upcoming events, news from Hollywood and polls that will help us cater to what our fans want to see at the theater!

    We will also feature a store section, where you will be able to purchase items such as posters, tshirts, gift certificates etc. It's a great way to buy something Patio Theater related right from your own computer!

    We also have a page dedicated to our Patio Theater Film Society of which we aren't entirely ready to reveal just yet. Stay tuned though!

    When you look up, you will notice a page that says RENT THE THEATER. Here you can request to rent out the theater for a particular reason. Be it showing a screening of your independent film, wanting to set up a school field trip or company outing, or possibly a private screening.

    That was a quick run down of the website, be sure to visit often and see the new changes and events happening on the site and at the theater! Thanks for visiting!
